TMD Friction

Based in Germany, TMD Friction produces brake disc pads and drum brake linings for both passenger and commercial vehicles.

TMD Friction, based in Leverkusen, Germany, was the new name for BBA Group plc's automotive brake friction business that was subject to a Management Buyout led by Montagu. The transaction was introduced to Montagu by HSBC's in-house German investment bank, HSBC Trinkaus & Burkhardt; they had developed close connections with the senior management of TMD Friction over a number of years and were also local bankers to the business.

TMD Friction produced brake disc pads and drum brake linings for both passenger and commercial vehicles. In August 2001, TMD Friction acquired the automotive friction business of Rutgers AG, consolidating its leading position in its main European markets and China, whilst at the same time establishing an important presence in key emerging markets in Brazil and Mexico.

Montagu exited TMD in 2006 when the business was sold to a consortium of banks.
